Convert While Active

Performing data conversions due to software upgrades and installations can render critical applications unavailable to users for extended amounts of time, which translates to lost productivity, increased costs and lost revenue.

With Vision’s Convert While Active solution, you can perform even the most extensive data conversions while only incurring negligible downtime, thus avoiding many other problems traditionally caused by data conversions.

Stop Putting Off Software Upgrades
Software upgrades that require data conversions can be daunting and time consuming, and are often avoided because of the associated problems they create, including

• The inconvenience and lost productivity caused by the resultant downtime
• Inadequate testing and auditing after the data conversion from pressure to minimize downtime
• Pressure to bring the system back on-line after the data conversion, resulting in risky decisions
• The chore of bringing the system current after the conversion can pose scheduling problems,
and may result in lost or inaccurate transactions being entered into the system

With Convert While Active, it is no longer necessary to have your mission critical applications unavailable during data conversions, nor to take unwise risks and make questionable decisions during the process.

Benefits of Convert While Active
Minimize Downtime: Without experiencing the downtime normally required to convert your data., you can take full advantage of your vendor’s software upgrades. A conversion of data during a software upgrade can take as long as 72 hours; however, with Convert While Active you will normally experience less than 15 minutes of downtime.

Run Parallel After Conversion: When running Convert While Active, a parallel file is created that undergoes the conversion, then is automatically synchronized with your production system as transactions occur until you decide to “go live.” This allows you to conduct extensive pre-live training, testing and auditing on the new release for as long as you wish. The following diagram illustrates how Convert While Active synchronizes both your production file and the parallel conversion file when transactions occur. Once you decide to go live, your production file is replaced with the conversion file.

Skip Interim Software Releases: Upgrading to a current release requires no programming to accommodate missed interim releases that have database changes. With Convert While Active, if you have fallen behind on software releases, you combine all releases and can apply them with a single conversion.
